MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The City of Montgomery is providing a small update to its ongoing search for a new police chief. According to a spokesperson for Mayor Steven Reed’s office, approximately 40 candidates were under consideration for the job, but that list has since been whittled down to just four.
The city would not provide any other details surrounding its search or identify the four candidates, saying that its evaluation process is still ongoing and that updates would be provided in the future. It’s also unclear if Interim Police Chief James “Jim” Graboys is among the remaining candidates.
Graboys took the reigns at MPD on July 15 after being appointed on an interim basis and was immediately hailed as a good move by some, including the local fraternal order of police. He replaced then-Acting Police Chief John Hall, who returned to his duties as MPD’s chief of investigations…
