The Alabama All-Stars used a 17-point fourth quarter to knock of their counterparts from Mississippi in a 35-29 win in the annual Mississippi/Alabama All-Star tilt. Helping pave the way for the win was Mississippi State signee Spencer Dowland.
Dowland, a 6-6, 290 pounder, prepped at Athens High School (AL). The Golden Eagles posted an 8-3 mark on the season. A loss to Homewood in the state playoffs ended the campaign. Fortunately for Dowland, he had another high school game to play for his home state.
“Most of those guys from the Alabama team are from the south,” Dowland explained. “I am way north, so I had never been against those guys before. Going against some good competition, I definitely feel like I got better. At my high school, I have only really played left tackle. When I got down there (Mobile, Alabama), they put me at right tackle. It’s on me for not really knowing it, but I played a lot of right tackle this week. It helped me realize what all I need to work on.”…
