Freeze tonight, warmer weather this weekend

Tonight: A widespread frost and freeze is in store tonight across central Alabama as lows drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s with clear skies and calm winds making for frosty conditions as well.

Thursday: Temperatures will warm quickly through the day into the lower to middle 50s with mostly sunny skies and light winds.

Friday: Clouds gradually build back into the region as southerly flow returns, aiding in a boost in temperatures to the upper 50s with a mix of sun and clouds.

This Weekend: Our warming trend continues with highs around 60° Saturday afternoon and in the middle 60s on Sunday. A decaying cold front will throw some rain showers our way Saturday evening and into early Sunday. The best chance for rain showers will be Saturday night, but a few are likely as early as dinner time across north Alabama on Saturday. These will be fairly light and scattered in nature, so I wouldn’t cancel any outdoor plans. Just plan on grabbing the umbrella or rain coat this weekend before heading out. Sunday will be mainly dry with a mostly cloudy sky and very mild for mid-December.

Next Week: Another weak, decaying cold front will attempt to push in early next week, bringing some scattered rain showers once again mainly across northern Alabama by Monday night into Tuesday. Most of us should stay dry, as this front won’t have much lift along it, therefore leading to more cloudiness than notable rainfall. We will adjust rain chances if needed, but we have kept them lower to around 30% for now across the entire area. We remain mild through the first half of next week with highs staying in the lower 60s and overnight lows in the upper 40s…
