Mainly cold rain Friday, but a wintry mix for some Friday morning

Friday afternoon remains mainly sunny, but clouds may increase late in the day across west Alabama. High temperatures range from the mid 40s to around 50°. Clouds increase Thursday night, with a mix of rain/snow/and sleet moving into west Alabama after midnight. Precipitation spreads across the rest of our area through sunrise Friday. Temperatures fall into the low to mid 30s overnight.

Near and south of Highway 80 and Interstate 85, it looks like mostly cold rain. Near and north of there, wet snow and sleet could be in the mix. With temperatures near freezing, some snow or ice may accumulate on bridges, grass, and some roads. A winter weather advisory includes Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, and Elmore counties until 3PM. However, it looks like precipitation changes to cold rain across all of our area during the afternoon.

Rain departs Friday evening, but clouds linger Friday night. Temperatures may fall to near freezing, so lingering water on roads may re-freeze early Saturday morning. Clouds may gradually erode Saturday, but even with sunshine, afternoon temperatures only warm into the 40s. Saturday night looks very cold, with lows in the mid 20s. Sunday looks mostly sunny and a touch warmer, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s…
