MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Christmas isn’t the only religious celebration on Dec. 25 this year. The Jewish festival of Hanukkah also begins Wednesday night this year.
What Rabbi Scott Looper of Temple Beth Or wants people to know about Hanukkah is that though the timing of the celebration is similar to Christmas, the two holidays are unrelated.
“Hanukkah is a minor holiday,” Looper said. “It’s just a festival, and I think a lot of people who aren’t Jewish associate it as a major holiday because it comes in context around Christmastime.”…
