The Sam Houston Bearkats are fresh off their first 10-win season as an FBS program, and now they hope to sustain that success under a new head coach in Phil Longo.
Longo, who spent the 2023 campaign as Wisconsin’s offensive coordinator, already helped the program land a former 4-star quarterback in the transfer portal. Mabrey Mettauer announced his transfer from Wisconsin to Sam Houston on Sunday, following Longo from Madison, WI to Huntsville, TX.
Longo recruited the 4-star quarterback from The Woodlands, TX to Wisconsin in the 2024 cycle. ESPN tabbed Mettauer as the 8th-ranked dual-threat quarterback of the class and the 56th overall prospect in the state of Texas. As a true freshman this season, Mettauer maintained his redshirt by suiting up in only three contests.
