I-77 in southwest Charlotte closed due to vehicle fire: CFD

CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — I-77 north in southwest Charlotte was closed due to a tractor-trailer on fire, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

Around 10 a.m. on Saturday, crews responded to the fire at I-77 north at Westinghouse Blvd near Exit 1. Medic says they did not respond to the scene.

Charlotte Fire says the incident involved a UPS tractor powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), which is highly volatile and could cause a catastrophic explosion. When crews arrived on scene, the tractor was fully engulfed in flames. Fire personnel worked to extinguish the fire while ensuring that the CNG tanks were properly cooled.
