On Thursday, Oxnard Police Department received several calls concerning a man brandishing a weapon and acting erratically. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old James Yuot, was seen wielding a large metal pole and a landscape scythe, creating a threatening environment for the residents and passersby in the neighborhood around Sixth Street and “C” Street, according to the Oxnard Police Department’s press release.
As police officers responded to multiple reports, they found Yuot swinging the pole at vehicles near Fifth Street and Ventura Road. Despite attempts to engage with him, Yuot charged at police, wielding the metal pole, which resulted in a precarious situation for the officers involved. After a pursuit, Yuot ended up in the 100 block of Bottlebrush Circle where he continued to exhibit aggressive behavior towards the approaching officers, wielding the pole menacingly, as per the Oxnard Police Department.
The confrontation escalated as Yuot refused compliance, leading the officers to deploy a less-lethal shotgun. However, the situation remained unresolved as Yuot fled to a nearby backyard.
