Eye-catching holiday tradition returns to California’s busiest toll bridge

Drivers crossing the Bay Bridge’s westbound Yerba Buena Island Tunnel were greeted this weekend by the annual holiday wreath, marking a 14-year tradition, the authority stated.

The Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) and Caltrans collaborated to hang the 13-foot, 300-pound wreath, featuring artificial foliage, ornaments, and a ribbon. Permanent anchors installed in 2011 allow the same wreath to be reused each year, according to the authority.

The decoration, a symbol of holiday cheer, will remain until after New Year’s Day before being stored for the next season. BATA, managing toll revenues for seven Bay Area bridges, and Caltrans, responsible for the state highway system, jointly oversee this tradition to bring festive spirit to the region’s busiest transbay crossing, the authority stated.
