Gilroy woman, 23, killed after crash in Monterey

( KRON ) — A 23-year-old Gilroy woman was killed in a crash Thursday morning in Monterey, according to California Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 6:10 a.m. in the area of Nashua Road and Monte Road.

A GMC Suburban with two Salinas residents was going westbound on Nashua, east of Montre Road, CHP said. A pedestrian crossed from the south shoulder onto the westbound lane of Nashua Road in the SUV’s direct path of travel.

The GMC was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the pedestrian, authorities said. The victim, later determined to be a 23-year-old Gilroy woman, died at the scene.
