On Thursday, March 13, Jaden Garay pleaded guilty in federal court to carjacking and shooting Mars Hill postal worker Teresa Ramsey in the face on September 5, 2023. A U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of North Carolina sentenced Garay to 24 years in federal prison and ordered him to pay $640,582.81 in restitution.
Following his federal sentencing, Garay now faces state charges, including attempted murder, robbery, and discharging a weapon. Authorities say he shot Ramsey before stealing her Jeep and fleeing, prompting a police manhunt. He was captured early the next morning, September 6, in Morganton.
