N.C. Department of Adult Correction officer William “Alden” Elliott was one of four law enforcement officers who died in a Charlotte shootout on April 29, 2024.
Elliott, who was from Newton, was one of 15 officers presented an award by the U.S. Attorney General last week. Among the honored were a Statesville police officer and a U.S. Deputy Marshal from Mooresville.
Statesville Police Department Cpl. Casey Hoover was shot in the torso on April 29, 2024, Statesville Police Chief David Onley said previously. He survived the shootout.
Elliott and U.S. Deputy Marshal Thomas Weeks Jr., 48, were killed in the shootout. Elliott was from Newton. Weeks was from Mooresville.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland recognized the sacrifice of the three men during the 72nd Annual Attorney General’s Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C. on Jan. 15, Statesville police said in a news release.
