State lawmakers get out ahead of school board on cell phone ban

State House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly March 25 to require North Carolina school districts to ban or greatly restrict student cell phone access in the classroom.

The move comes the same night that county school leaders worked on a cell phone policy of their own at a policy committee meeting.

“We’re working to draft a policy that’s clear and consistent, but also thoughtful, responsive, and centered on what’s best for students,” one district leader said about the county’s policy…
