MORGANTON, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A 51-year-old woman is dead after an apartment fire early Sunday morning, according to the Morganton Department of Public Safety.
Around 6 a.m. on March 23, crews responded to a structure fire at the Forest View Apartments at 401 Lenoir Road. When they arrived, they saw an upstairs corner apartment with heavy smoke and an active fire.

Efforts to control the fire started immediately and adjacent units were evacuated to ensure resident safety, officials said.
