Fairmont State Continues Strong Play Against Wheeling

WHEELING, W.Va. — The Fairmont State University women’s soccer team made the trek to face the Cardinals of Wheeling University. The Falcons continued their strong play with a 2-0 win over the Cardinals.

In the first half, it was all Fairmont State as the team controlled the ball mainly in the offensive zone. The Falcons totaled 14 shots compared to only three for Wheeling. Six of those 14 shots were on target but all of them were stopped. The Cardinals had one lone shot on goal but Olivia Johnston was there for the save. At the break, the game remained scoreless.

Fairmont State maintained the offensive pressure in the second half and it paid off in 54th minute as Ashley Rainho capitalized on a penalty kick. Four minutes later, Valentina Gianinetto added to the lead as she scored off a pass from Rainho…
