Grand Rapids Alger Middle School principal, Charlie Lovelady, was arrested on Tuesday December 10th for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.244, which is three times the legal limit for driving in Michigan.
This incident happened shortly after midnight when Kent County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a damaged vehicle on Hannah Lake Road and 60th Street in Gaines Township.

Upon arrival, deputies found Lovelady alone in his vehicle, exhibiting signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. A strong odor of alcohol was also noted. Lovelady admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to driving. Investigators discovered an open liquor bottle on the roadside believed to be associated with him.
Lovelady, who has been the principal at Alger Middle School for two years, faces charges of operating while intoxicated and possessing open intoxicants in a vehicle.
