GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Chilly weather will persist for much of this week in West Michigan while areas just south dig out from a major winter storm system.
On Sunday evening, snow showers extended all the way from eastern Kansas to the east coast while freezing rain affects portions of southern Illinois and Indiana leading into Kentucky. A line of potent thunderstorms is also firing off to the south along a cold front from Tennessee into Texas.
Winter weather alerts are in place for 18 states and more than 60 million people will be impacted by a variety of wintry weather. Impacts from this storm will be felt through Tuesday.
Locally, points along and south of I-94 may be brushed by a few flurries and light snow showers on Monday morning with the passage of this system. No accumulation is anticipated.
Monday should be a cloudy and chilly day with highs lifting into the lower and middle 20s setting the tone for what’s on the way as a wintry pattern persists. It may take a week for Grand Rapids to climb near the freezing point with cold weather clinging on for quite some time.
No major snow disturbances are dialed up for West Michigan, but we may see lake-effect snow generate on Wednesday and again on Friday and Saturday leading into next weekend. Stay with Storm Team 8 for more updates on your forecast…
