Southern U.S. Prepares for Major Winter Weather: Texas to Mid-South on Alert

Jackson, MS – A powerful winter storm is forecast to bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain to parts of the Southern U.S. from Wednesday through Friday. Texas, the Lower Mississippi Valley, and Mid-South are expected to face hazardous travel conditions and potential power outages.

According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, light snow will begin in West Texas Wednesday, followed by widespread winter precipitation Thursday. Areas from Dallas to Jackson could see a wintry mix, with freezing rain posing the highest risk for travel. Accumulation of ice is likely, especially in northern areas with subfreezing temperatures.

Uncertainty remains for regions farther east, including parts of Tennessee and Kentucky. However, the storm’s progression indicates colder temperatures will linger through Monday, increasing risks.
