Huge Homecoming Comeback And Conference Win For The Varsity Volleyball Team Against The Mohawks

The Morley Stanwood Mohawks made the trip to Kent City on Tuesday night to take on the Lady Eagles in a big matchup of the two undefeated teams in the CSAA.  This match would not disappoint the fans in the stands that were there to watch and support the Lady Eagles in their homecoming game.   In fact if you were an Eagle fan and left early you missed out on all the excitement.  The Eagles would start out very uptight and made many errors in the first set.  They found themselves in a big hole and would just keep fighting to try and earn some momentum and play some better volleyball.  They would lose the first set 17-25.  The Eagles would start to play better in the second set, but wasn’t quite able to pull out the victory and lost 21-25.  This team has been working on staying positive and not dwelling on the last play.  The third set would be a back and forth battle, but this time the Eagles were starting to play some better volleyball and were starting to make the adjustments that we had been talking about.  There were many great plays defensively and offensively.  The Eagles were diving all over the floor to keep the ball in play and stay in control of the set.  They would do just that and win this third set 25-17.  The fourth set would be another tight match with many lead changes and numerous tied scores.  We were all tied up at 20, 22 through 27.  With the score tied up at 27 the Eagles would earn the side-out and then some great back and forth volleys and some scrappy defensive plays the Mohawks would have a hitting error that would give the Eagles the match point winning it 29-27.  That match was a huge battle for the Lady Eagles and their great teamwork and support of one another along with their determination to get this win to force a fifth and deciding set.  With the score tied up at 5 the Eagles would take the lead 8-5 forcing the Mohawks to call their first timeout of the set.  Morley Stanwood would earn the side-out after the timeout, but the Eagles would earn the ball right back and continue to fight hard together and would extend their lead to 12-7 after a big block by Kenzy Freeland forcing the Mohawks to call their final timeout.  The Eagles would earn point 13 after a long volley.  The Mohawks would then earn the ball back and earn one point of their serve as well making the score Eagles 13 Morley Stanwood 9.  After a small volley the Eagles would earn the ball back making it match point for them.  The next play would end with a kill by the Mohawks making it Eagles 14 Mohawks 10.  The Mohawks would go back to serve and serve it to Milah Mollien who would have a perfect pass up to Cailynn Hartzell who would then set up Maddy Mitchell who would go up and swing and place the ball in the middle of the court and it would find the floor with no touch from the Mohawks for the kill to earn the win after an amazing comeback.  There were so many great plays throughout the match and the Eagles fought hard together as a team and stayed positive with each other throughout the entire match.  I could not be more proud of them and the composure they held the entire match.  Some key blocks and swings along with some great defense made a great difference in this last set.

A big shoutout to the loud and supportive student section and all the fans that were there cheering on the team.  We could definitely hear you and appreciate your support.  We hope that you enjoyed the match and will be back to support your Lady Eagles again this season…
