Funding for I-73 left out of McMaster’s executive budget for second year

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF) – For the second year in a row, Gov. Henry McMaster’s executive budget is missing funds for an important project for the Grand Strand.

Last year, McMaster left out funding for Interstate 73, which would expand the interstate from I-95 to the Grand Strand, making a more seamless route for people to get to the beach.

In years before 2024, the governor had asked state lawmakers to set aside $300 million for the project, but last year was the first year he kept it out of the budget, stating the project needed more local support.
