Prosecutors seek the death penalty in Idaho prison escape case

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Nicholas Umphenour, the man accused of helping his co-defendant escape from prison will now face the death penalty.

Umphenour is accused of helping Skylar Meade escape from jail in Boise while Meade was receiving care at a local hospital. Umphenour and Meade got into a shootout with officers, injuring three of them in the process.

Umphenour and Meade then led authorities on a multi-day manhunt across Idaho, where prosecutors say they have linked Umphenour to the murder of Mr. Mauney, a man from Juliaetta. Prosecutors believe that Umphenour and Meade killed two people while on the run, but have filed for the death penalty in Umphenour’s case related to the murder of Mr. Mauney so far…
