Concerning man and angels: What the Bible teaches about the two different created beings

This past Sunday, September 29, was the Festival of St. Michael and All Angels in many corners of Christianity.

Therefore, let us consider the subject of angels, drawing from the sermon preached in the congregation I serve (edited for space and context), the text of which is Psalm 103:20-21, “Bless the Lord, ye His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His Word. Bless ye the Lord, all ye His hosts; ye ministers of His, that do His pleasure.”

Quite often, when someone dies, we’ll hear of family and loved ones referring to the deceased as an “angel” of sorts — “our angel,” “our little angel,” or something along the lines. Perhaps the ones making the statements really don’t mean that they believe the person has actually become an angel, in the definitive sense…
