Connecticut man sentenced in Wisconsin for role in grandparent scheme

MADISON, Wisconsin — A Hartford man was sentenced in Wisconsin to three years and five months imprisonment earlier this week for participating in a wire fraud scheme that targeted elderly victims.

Matthew Ramos-Soto, 27, pled guilty to the charge on April 4 and must pay restitution, according to Timothy O’Shea, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin.

Prosecutors say Ramos-Soto was involved with a network of criminals who perpetrated grandparent schemes throughout the United States. Conspirators operating outside of the country would call elderly victims pretending to be a relative or a relative’s attorney…
