CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — A preliminary settlement was approved on Thursday between Stone Academy and the nearly 1,000 students who are left holding the bag.

Stone Academy, a school that specialized in nursing, had been around for nearly 150 years, with campuses in West Haven, East Hartford and Waterbury. The school closed its doors overnight in 2023, and many students who were just trying to make ends meet were shut out of a way to make their lives better.
Kristie Ricker was pregnant and just weeks from graduating when the college shut its doors for good. She had taken out nearly $27,000 in loans and was at the very end of her degree when the rug was pulled out beneath her.
“With this agreement that has been made, it looks like we might have the opportunity, the people that were in bad to actually do that again and do like a refresher course and then sit for our exams,” Ricker, who was working towards her licensed practical nurse (LPN) degree, said…
