NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WNTH) — Five big city mayors and superintendents are calling on the state to increase funding to support high-needs students. Officials said the amount students are currently getting has not changed in years and isn’t keeping up with the level of inflation.
New Haven is one of five major cities demanding funding for high-needs students, which include low-income students, students living with disabilities, and multilingual students who have unique learning needs.

Currently, education officials said the state’s per-student foundation amount is just over $11,500 and it hasn’t increased in over a decade since 2013, despite inflation of 2.77%.
They add, that this underfunding has led to “significant shortages in critical staffing areas” and “a lack of sufficient services for students.”…
