Glassblowing is a centuries-old art form praised for the fragile beauty of its finished pieces and for the dangerous nature of the medium: molten glass shaped over 2,000-degree heat.
Slidell is home to its very own glass artist, Solange Ledwith, who owns Swamp Girl Glass gallery and studio, and this month, the city of Slidell honors the artist with a solo exhibit at the Slidell Cultural Center.
The exhibit, “Surrender,” features up to six pieces of Ledwith’s traditional Venetian glass art and more than ten glass paintings. She began making the paintings in 2023, and dived deeper into them while healing from a Jiu-Jitsu accident that left her with a broken leg and limited mobility…
