Witnesses testify at sentencing hearing of former ERAU student accused of attempted mass shooting

A former Embry Riddle Aeronautical student accused of threatening to carry out a mass shooting at the school three years ago faces up to 45 years in prison, according to sentencing guidelines and a scoresheet filed by prosecutors, a judge said at a court hearing on Wednesday.

The accused, John Hagins, 22, had a sentencing hearing but because the court ran out of the allotted time for the session, he and his defense attorney will return to court in a few weeks to argue why Hagins shouldn’t go to prison, said attorney Mark O’Mara.
