VIDEO | Green light…snow!

In the midst of the first significant snowfall in the state in a couple of years, some motorists who were out took notice of a new feature on snow plows operated by the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) – flashing green lights.

“In 2023 legislation was passed by the General Assembly allowing DelDOT essentially to use green lights on our equipment,” said DelDOT spokesman C. R. McLeod. “Other DOTs around the country have had success using these green lights.”

Once the legislation was approved, the agency began the process of equipping plow trucks with the green strobes.

“It’s about visibility,” said McLeod. “Green is actually the most visible color from a distance on the color spectrum, and during a snow event it’s also been found that green has a better contrast, especially during a heavy snowfall, to those traditional amber colored lights…
