12 Danbury agencies receive opioid settlement funds: ‘Incredible work in substance abuse prevention’

DANBURY — Mayor Roberto Alves’ office announced it will distribute $170,000 in opioid settlement money to 12 agencies that provide education, addiction recovery, homelessness support and other services related to substance abuse in Danbury .

The recipients of the settlement awards are already “doing incredible work in substance abuse prevention and providing wraparound services, as well as offering opportunities to folks in treatment and recovery. We’re proud to put this money exactly where it was intended to go,” Alves said.

This distribution is the first round of monetary awards to be made from the fund, which came from nationwide opioid litigation settlement agreements with opioid distributors and manufacturers. The state is expected to receive more than $600 million over 18 years as part of that agreement , which will be paid out to various cities and towns during that period , according to the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services …
