Mahopac’s Bergerson Named National Merit Semifinalist

MAHOPAC, N.Y. — Mahopac resident Liam Bergerson—who attended Mahopac Middle School and Fulmar Road Elementary School and now goes to Regis High School in NYC—is a 2025 National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.

Bergerson earned a perfect score on the PSAT, the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, taken during his junior year. Now a senior at Regis, a prestigious, private all-boys Jesuit school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Bergerson said his early start in the Mahopac Central School District gave him a “foundation that will last a lifetime.”

While a student in Mahopac schools, Bergerson was able to tap into his interest in science, placing first in the Mahopac Middle School Science Fair during both his seventh and eighth-grade years. He examined the effects of Wi-Fi radiation on the development of Artemia franciscana , a species of brine shrimp, from the cyst stage to adulthood. He also placed first in the Tri County Science and Technology Fair and advanced to the Broadcom MASTERS, a national science competition for middle school students…
