Report of “man through ice” sends out first responders

CARMEL – Nine-one-one calls reporting a man through the ice on Lake Gleneida in the Putnam County seat of Carmel resulted in a massive response of police, fire and EMS personnel Thursday afternoon.

The time was 3:15 p.m. when callers advised dispatchers seeing a red-haired man walking across the partially frozen lake before disappearing across from the Reed Memorial Library located at the intersection of Routes 6 and 52.

Carmel Police, members of the Putnam Sheriff’s Office, Carmel Fire Department and Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps raced to the scene along with State Police and a DEC Police officer…
