All Rockdale Residents Advised to Shelter in Place

CONYERS — Air quality surveys that showed the presence of the harmful irritant chlorine prompted Rockdale County to issue an advisory early Monday for all Rockdale County residents to shelter in place. The county also advised that businesses should close operations until the shelter-in-place advisory is lifted.

In the aftermath of a fire and chemical incident at BioLab on Old Covington Highway in Conyers Sunday, the state Environmental Protection Division and the federal Environmental Protection Agency detected chlorine in the air emitting from the BioLab incident location. Residents are advised that the best practice under those circumstances is to turn off the air conditional and keep windows and doors shut.
