A town hall is set for the proposed $12 million amphitheater project in Washington

Washington residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and share opinions on the city’s proposed amphitheater project after the city council on Monday set a date for a town hall.

A town hall is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 in the banquet rooms at Five Points Event Center, according to Mayor Gary Manier. Council members, contractors, the project architect and the Hengst Foundation behind the project will be in attendance to answer questions and present information. There was no further discussion about the amphitheater project Monday night.

Sparked by a $12 million donation from Jim Hengst , a former Washington resident, the Dee Amphitheater would be built in his late wife’s name along the northeast portion of 223 acres along U.S. Route 24 the city purchased in 2013. Plans for a 5,000-seat indoor/outdoor venue are ongoing, but a feasibility study done for the project anticipates it would open in 2026 and its finances a few years to stabilize…
