Alex McCulla’s Big Day Paces Redbirds in Memphis

CORDOVA, Tenn. – Using a strong opening day by Alex McCulla, which has him tied for fifth place individually through 36 holes, and the Redbirds are in ninth place in a strong field at the Memphis Intercollegiate: Spirited by Old Dominick.

Tournament host Memphis leads the field after 36 holes with a 584, while 10th-ranked Illinois stands five strokes behind. Southern Miss (600), Samford (607), Austin Peay (607), Western Kentucky (611), Central Arkansas (612), and Dayton (612) sit just ahead of ISU’s two-round 617. Chasing the Redbirds include Morehead State (620), Belmont (624), UT-Martin (635), Missouri State (636), Lindenwood (640), and Tennessee State (647).

Over the opening round, McCulla carded an even-par 72 with a trio of birdies and a dozen pars, before coming back with a 74 using five birdies and six pars for his two-over second round, which has him tied for fifth place with 18 holes to play…
