Bloomington nonprofit at risk of relocation without new roof

BLOOMINGTON — Over the last 20 years, Recycling Furniture for Families has provided more than 100,000 essential furnishings to around 9,500 families looking to turn unstable living conditions into comfortable homes.

But without collecting the estimated $160,000 needed to repair the roof on its aging warehouse in downtown Bloomington, the charity is at risk of having to sell the property and moving.

Frank Downes, executive director of Recycling Furniture for Families, 515 N. Center St., said a lot of clients are coming from The Salvation Army, Home Sweet Home Ministries or other shelters after experiencing a homeless situation. But by working with a counselor, those clients are referred to Recycling Furniture for Families…
