Local restaurant owners prepare for minimum wage increase

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Starting in the new year, the minimum wage will increase to $15 an hour for workers and $9 an hour for servers making tips.

The one-dollar increase completes a six-year transition that began in 2019 when Illinois had an $8.25 minimum wage.

The 2019 law was the first major legislative victory for Governor JB Pritzker. He signed the bill one month into his first term.
