BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Treatment will begin on Thursday to help address the algal growth in two Bloomington lakes.
The algaecide treatments will be for parts of Lake Bloomington and Evergreen to address the increased level of microcystin, which is a toxin that can form during algal blooms, Bloomington spokeswoman Katherine Murphy said.
She said weather conditions led to an unexpected algal bloom in January. After that, the city’s water department began working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to monitor the water quality of the lakes.
