Oklahoma City Utilities Department Shares Holiday Recycling Tips on What’s Naughty and Nice for Your Green Bin

As the holiday season brings an influx of mail and gifts, the Oklahoma City Utilities Department is reminding residents to be mindful of what can and cannot be recycled. In a recent announcement, the department advised that only appropriate items should be placed in the recycling bin when sorting through holiday mail and packages.

Acceptable “Nice” items for recycling include regular mail, magazines, and paper (if not shredded). Cardboard shipping boxes or food boxes should be flattened before recycling. According to the Oklahoma City Utilities Department, holiday cards and plain wrapping paper can be recycled, as long as they do not contain glitter or plastic. Additionally, clean and dry plastic bottles and jugs, milk and juice cartons, glass bottles and jars, and metal cans are also recyclable.

There is also a “Naughty” list of items that should be placed in the Big Blue trash cart. These include plastic bags and wraps, holiday lights, foil and glossy wrapping paper, and tissue paper. Plastic toys, electronics, and items like ribbons, bows, garland, tinsel, and ornaments are also not recyclable and should be disposed of in the trash, according to the city’s announcement…
