St. Louis Natives Among Victims Rebuilding Lives after California Wildfires Devastate Homes Near Los Angeles

The California wildfires continue to wreak havoc across the state, leaving many without homes or possessions. Among those affected is St. Louis native Brian Perry and his family, who have lost their home north of Los Angeles due to the Eaton Fire. “We just packed up and left. We didn’t waste any time,” Perry told FOX 2. The Gateway Tech and Mizzou grad, along with his wife and 14-year-old son, are now relying on the kindness of the community as they begin to try to rebuild their lives.

A communal effort has quickly been organized to assist the Perrys. The family, described by Perry as having to rebuild from scratch, saw their Altadena home decimated just one day after evacuating. “His school is in our neighborhood and our neighborhood is completely wiped out so he’s talking to his friends. All of his friends are experiencing the same thing,” Perry explained in an interview with KSDK. A GoFundMe campaign is aiding the Perry family during this tumultuous time.

Another St. Louis native, Michelle Moll, has similarly fallen victim to the wildfires. Moll and her partner had lived in Altadena for two years before losing their apartment and nearly all their possessions to the blaze. The loss of the community appears to weigh heavily on Moll, who lamented, “It was only our home for a couple years, but we had friends who lived there, small business, just the community they were so welcoming and just for that to be gone in an instant is just heartbreaking,” in a statement obtained by First Alert 4.
