When Shaquan Young was a child, her second-grade school teachers believed she could not speak. The truth was that she was shy and could not find the courage to speak. However, through dancing at home and encouragement from her family and church she found a voice and the means to express it.
“It took a very long time for me to get out of my shell, and what happened to me was the people around me never gave up,” Young said. “You know, having that support system where people love you and they know who you are helps a great deal. Some people give up on children. It is sad to say, but it’s true.”
