After spending four-plus decades on the sideline and transforming Archbishop Stepinac into a CHSFL power, Mike O’Donnell is stepping down as head coach of the Crusaders.
The 65-year-old informed his players on Wednesday morning. He will remain the school’s athletic director.
“I think it’s a job for somebody with more energy,” said O’Donnell, who remains the school’s athletic director. “We found a very good young coach. I’ve been looking for a while to find the right person to take over the football program. I’ve never worried about the wins or the championships. It’s more about the kids and getting them into college and helping them become good people, and I’m going to continue doing that. I may not be the head coach, but I’m going to be around.”…
