Picture This: Oakland’s Redevelopment Through Photos

Audiovisual archivist and doctoral degree candidate in public history Moriah Ulinskas will lead this in-person conversation using photographs by local artists and government agencies to talk about how Oakland was re-shaped in the 1960s and 1970s at a time when the city’s urban renewal displaced Black and brown residents out of West Oakland.

Poetry Slam for Peace

This event by the Global Family for Love and Peace, an organization “working for peace through dialogue, education and service,” first took place eight years ago in New York at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. The slam has been virtual for the past four years and is restarting live events worldwide. Oakland has been chosen as the flagship for the first live event. The slam will be hosted by Oakland resident, artist, and educator Amikaeyla Gaston, with performances by poets from Youth Speaks and the Oakland Youth Poet Laureate Program…
