LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Howell High School student charged with aiding and abetting the 2021 assault of a fellow student by filming it, writing in a 6-1 majority decision Friday that, since he was not armed at the time of the incident, he can not be charged with assault.
The student, who was 16 at the time, was initially charged after filming two students assaulting a third student and distributing that video to other students. During the incident, the two assailants kicked the victim while wearing shoes, and one of them, who was wearing a pair of slides, picked up one of the shoes and hit the victim with it.
