OAKLAND, California — A Dublin man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for damaging computers belonging to his former employer, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Vamsikrishna Naganathanahalli, 49, pleaded guilty to three counts of intentionally causing damage without authorization to a protected computer.
Naganathanahalli, who worked as a Senior HCM Architect for MedAmerica, Inc., part of the Vituity group of companies, admitted to using his access to a privileged HCM service account to change passwords and load files with “dummy” data, which overwrote real data for approximately 90 percent of Vituity employees. The conduct resulted in a loss of at least $400,930 to Vituity, stated the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ordered Naganathanahalli to pay $400,930 in restitution, a $300 special assessment, and sentenced him to a three-year period of supervised release. The defendant is scheduled to begin serving his sentence on July 20, 2025…
