GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -The first Saturday of November means one thing for Ocala residents, the 43rd annual Marion County Chili Cookoff.
The Marion County Chili Cook-Off began in 1981 with the thought of raising money to help start The Cornerstone School, a private institution in Ocala centered around teaching the whole child.
“It was something that wasn’t done it was something different,” Annie Darley, a school administrator commented. “It was an opportunity for people to show off their culinary skills and we do follow the chili guidelines, the competition chili cannot have any beans in it so they’re actually just tasting the spices you create in your chili.”…
