SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Thursday, Utah! Calm weather is in place Thursday as high pressure remains largely in place over the state.
The ridge is shifting east and has moved into eastern Colorado, and a Pacific storm is heading toward California, putting Utah and southwest Wyoming under a strengthening southwest flow. Skies are mostly clear, with a few high clouds in northern Utah. Temps will climb about 5° above normal today, with southern Utah seeing the most warming.
As the California storm moves inland, winds will pick up and shift to the south. Friday into Saturday morning, the storm splits, bringing some mountain snow (especially in the Upper Cottonwoods) and some rain that turns to snow in northern valleys as temps drop.
Mountain snowfall estimates are on the light side with the upper Cottonwoods possibly seeing 4-8+ inches of snowfall while most other mountain areas will see 2-4 inches. Valley snowfall is expected early Saturday morning with up to an inch possible. By Saturday afternoon, the snow tapers off, leaving highs around 10° below normal…
