Fontenelle Forest’s Acorn Acres playscape to reopen Oct. 9

Acorn Acres, a half-acre playscape in Fontenelle Forest that introduces nature to people of all ages and comfort levels, will reopen to the public on Oct. 9 following a renovation to accommodate more abilities. A grand opening celebration, Acorn Acres Discovery Day, is scheduled for Oct. 19.

The reimagined playscape — which features natural forest materials to encourage imagination, unstructured play and confidence in nature — now incorporates accommodations for people using mobility aids and for people with needs related to sight, touch, sound sensitivity and energy level. It’s also designed for caregivers of different ability levels.

“Fontenelle Forest is thrilled to welcome our community back to a reimagined Acorn Acres, which now accommodates even more abilities so families can explore and experience the outdoors in whatever way works for them,” said Tyler Irvine, the Forest’s executive director. “A key element of our mission at Fontenelle Forest is to inspire current and future generations to care for the natural world. The new Acorn Acres is designed to strengthen the connection young people and families feel to the outdoors.”…
