(Glenwood) — KMA News continues its “Meet the Candidates” series, featuring the candidates running in key races in the November general election. Today’s report features the Democrat challenger in the Iowa House’s 16th District race, Candella Foley-Finchem.

An Arkansas native, Foley-Finchem earned a B.S. in Psychology, B.A. in Social Work, and a minor in Family Studies at Arkansas State University. After moving to Glenwood with her husband–a Glenwood native–in 2006, she completed her MSW at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and obtained her credentials as a licensed independent social worker, international advanced alcohol and drug counselor, and licensed independent mental health provider. After serving as a mental health professional at Allegent Health then CHI, Foley-Finchem launched her own private therapy practice. Speaking on KMA’s “Morning Line” program Thursday morning, Foley-Finchem says she began following the Iowa Legislature during COVID-19, and grew frustrated over developments at the Statehouse.

“As I did pay more attention to the state legislature,” said Foley-Finchem, “I realized that they didn’t appear to be working for southwest Iowa, especially for those in the working class, and the poor. I got more and more frustrated, and started to attend the legislative coffees, and writing to my representative, and emails and phone calls, and all that. As I continued to do that, it felt more and more like our legislators just weren’t listening to us.”…
