‘Just incredible’: Effects of historic low temps and snow to last days, weather service projects

The historic snowfall in southwest Louisiana is over, but the region is likely to see the effects of the unusual cold front for several more days, according to Doug Cramer, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles Office.

“Just incredible,” Cramer said of the weather that hit the region over the past two days. Especially in Acadiana, which saw the highest snow totals in the office’s coverage area spanning East Texas to the Atchafalaya, snow and ice will take a while to clear, he noted.

“We will see some substantial melting come Thursday afternoon,” Cramer said. But, he pointed out, “it can take a few days with a snowpack like that for it all to clear out.”…
