Waters Edge shelters those in need during winter storm

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Snow has blanketed much of Southwest Louisiana, and Waters Edge Gathering opened its doors as a warming center this week to help people avoid the harsh weather.

For those seeking shelter, it’s not just about escaping the elements, it’s about staying alive.

“Hypothermia is deadly to me. If not for this place, I couldn’t stay out for even 20 minutes in this cold. What hypothermia does, is it slows your heart. After that, my device will have to kick in to keep my heart beating. They not only are housing you, but they save some people’s lives,” Thelma Moore said…
